Restore Your Smile with Dental Crowns

If one of your teeth is broken, fractured, or decayed, or if one has had a root canal or been replaced with an implant, Edwin F. Johary, DDS., PA. may recommend that you get a dental crown to replace it. Dental crowns can be a vital part of how you take care of your oral health. If your smile is not complete, it can affect how you speak and chew, to say nothing of how a missing tooth can affect your self-confidence. Ensuring that tooth is replaced is almost always the best option in the long run.

Edwin F. Johary, DDS., PA. is proud to offer durable porcelain crowns to all of his patients. Once your crown is put in, you can expect it to last for many years with proper care. Best of all, it will be made to match the size, shape, and color of the tooth it is replacing. Chances are, only dental professionals will be able to tell that you have a crown.

How a Crown Is Placed

Having a dental crown placed is usually a two-appointment process. During the first appointment, Edwin F. Johary, DDS., PA. will prepare the tooth, removing decay and shaping the tooth to receive the crown, whether that means removing part of the tooth or building up the tooth’s structure. He will also take highly accurate molds of your tooth to create your custom crown and the temporary crown that will fill in the gap while you wait for your real crown. Finally, he’ll place your temporary crown.

After you go home, you’ll wait for a dental laboratory to create your real crown, which usually takes about two weeks. During this time, care for your temporary crown as you would a real tooth, with regular brushing and flossing. Keep in mind that your tooth may be sensitive to hot and cold and that you should avoid hard and sticky foods.

When your return to our office for your second appointment, Edwin F. Johary, DDS., PA. will remove the temporary dental crown and place the permanent one. He’ll make sure you are completely satisfied with your new crown before cementing it into place. Then, all you have to do is continue to care for your crown as you would any other tooth.
